The possible impact of a helping relationship ending
A helping relationship ending doesn't mean that the helpee is being thrown out, it is about trying to achieve the objectives that the helpee discussed with the helper at the beginning of the relationship.
It is like, a builder has to stop when the whole work of building is done. That is when all the aim is met. There is no point of continuation afterwards.
However, it is possible that the ending of a helping relationship can have various impacts. Such as,
Positive Impacts:
Accomplishment
One of the major aims of a helping relationship is that the helpee feels some sort of accomplishment, which were difficult to figure out on their own at the beginning.
Relief
A positive impact can be a sense of relief for the helpee. Which can help them to move forward.
Pride
The sense of accomplishment can give the helpee a sense of pride. They can feel proud for coming this far.
Fulfilment
One of the positive impacts for the helpee can be a sense of fulfilment after ending the relationship.
Confidence
At the end of the relationship, the helpee can feel an increase in their confidence.
Finding Structure
The helping relationship can help the helpee so much that at the end of it, they can find a solid structure in their lives, for dealing with their issues.
Growth and Routine
A successful ending of a helping relationship can highly influence in the growth of the helpee's life by letting them construct their own routine of regulating life forward.
Negative Impacts:
Anxiety
There is a high chance that the ending of a helping relationship will cause a huge amount of anxiety in the client's life. They can question their ability of coping without the helper.
Abandonment
Being on a helping relationship, creates a sense of attachment. By the end of it, the helpee might get triggered and fall into a sense of abandonment.
Sadness or Grief
One of the common impacts can be grief or sadness. Which is a very humane thing. Any sort of attachment ending is supposed to create such sort of feeling.
Reduction of Confidence
Suddenly the helpee can lack in confidence while navigating life by the ending of the helping relationship.
Losing Structure
While meeting the helper becomes a routine structure in the helpee's life, they might find it difficult to fill the void for a while.
Trust Issues
If the helpee tries to build a new helping relationship with a new helper, there can be a presence of trust issues. Because it is not at all easy to open up to a complete stranger.
Stress
Increasing of stress by the ending of a helping relationship is very possible.
